These recordings...

All the recordings I post here will be what I think are VG+(B/B+) quality and unless stated otherwise will be audience recordings. They will not be to everyone's taste but the idea is to give fellow music fans a chance to hear rare recordings from a certain era(the 80's).Many of these I have had stored away for 30+ years and will be available for the first time...

If it's soundboard A+ quality you are after these will not be for you...BUT I would never post anything that was unlistenable.. So pop the headphones on and grab your air guitar of choice... lets ROCK

What a gig!tour!album!..i've said it before on this blog but i will repeat myself... the scorpions during this period were untouchable....anyone who went to see in the early 80's will agree with me..... there was not a better live band out there...every show was amazing.... on this tour it would be the last time for a while we would hear classics from the 70's (steamrock, woman & burn the sky) these mixed with what were to become classics from the lovedrive & blackout albums made for a very special tour..... i went to the london shows but i got this in a trade and it's a good quality recording..... enjoy ed

16.making your mind up
17.land of make believe

mp3

What a band....after winning the euro song contest they went  on to have many hits over the years and although they went through many line up changes i think we will all agree this was by far their best period.....when you can pull out such classics as the camera never lies, land of make believe and i hear talk..well they could of played for hours..the only downside was their hits medley... i would of loved to hear these songs complete and not part of a medley but that aside this was  a great gig...it's a shame they did not achieve worldwide success which with all the hard work they put  into their short career they truly deserved...I have searched the web for hours and have not been able to find this show so i am hoping it's a first time recording out there..... enjoy ed

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

This is not a wind up....YES it is the mighty buck fizz at their peak...recorded by a very good friend of mine MR L.... who i would of loved to have seen with his long hair and leather jacket at the gig....... great stuff.... Where else in blog world would you find a bucks fizz show between an exodus and tank recording...he he he

The song "heat of the moment" was a huge hit and i am a sucker for a slice of AOR... so i had to go along and see the band and i am glad i did in a way... the songs were great BUT feck me the solo's went on forever... with nearly 30 mins of guitar>keyboard>drum solo's zzzzzzzzzzzzz... Still worth the ticket price though...enjoy ed

When it comes to the heavier side of rock i tend to treat it like marmite i either love it or hate it,,,i do prefer more melodic rock but if the mood takes me i can thrash with the best of them.I once walked out of a metallica gig at the marquee saying they were shite and nothing would come of them (to the utter disbelief of some friends)...not long after i was given a copy of "kill em all" by dave from shades record shop and my opinion was changed....Anyway i quite liked warlock and with doro they had a great singer even if some of the songs were hit and miss,,,Another great night was had down the marquee and listening to the end of the recording we all moved onto the st moritz club across the road... so i know the night was still young...good recording... enjoy ed

More from the troy brothers.... i have said it before and i will keep on saying it... whatever band they were in at the time whether mantis, stratus or escape... chris and tino troy produced some of the best melodic rock songs going.... they could put their harmonies to a chinese menu and i would still want to hear it... feckin' brilliant... Here they are with mr burr (r.i.p) and bernie shaw back i n '84.... the marquee gig was as brilliant as ever but the hammy gig was a bit of a let down,,,not their fault but they were supporting spider on a night when there was a tube & train strike so everything was running late so they only got to play 5 songs.... you will here the dj's pa come on after fantasy but they managed to squeeze another song in... enjoy ed

A couple of ufo shows from a brief uk tour they did back in '84, I have always been a fan throughout their career but i especially like the early 80's as they produced a couple of classic albums in mechanix & making contact that sometimes get overlooked but contain some great melodic rock tunes....anyway these recordings are ok.... the manchester is the better of the two...my recording of the lyceum is not brilliant but i thought i would include as there are  not that many ufo shows around from this period.... enjoy ed

DEMO   1985

produced by steve mann

1.krazy
2.out of control
3.rock n roll fever
4.streets of fire

mp3

Now this will test the memories of any fellow rockers that did the rounds during the early to mid 80's... Carrera were another of those "here today...gone later today" bands...they first came to my notice when i got a tap on the shoulder one night from an old school friend who i hadn't seen for 5 years but new i was a huge music fan and he passed me a demo and told me to pop along to a gig  to check out his band.... and i am glad i did...if you like your rock to be melodic with great catchy tunes in a def leppard sort of vain with some great guitar work then grab the demo & live gig... methinks you will enjoy..... by the way "steve mann" who produced their demo was in "mcauley schenker band" for a while.... just a bit of boring trivia i like to throw out occassionally...... enjoy ed

10.cross keys
11.wee wee baby >wild thing >breaking the law

mp3

As all fellow rockers will agree we do take our music seriously ...But we can have a good laugh aswell... as we have steel panther these days and spinal tap during the 90's back in the early 80's we had dumpy's rusty nuts who played good old honest british boogie but with tongue firmly placed in his cheek...while transferring this over i found myself laughing away at some of statements he came out with..that these days would not be considered to pc..... but's it's only rock n roll and i like it....enjoy ed

Now i will be amazed if anyone can remember this band (no not the brillaint aor american band who did.dearborn station) but our own little treasure....Let me explain...during this period there were so many bands of a similar genre we were spoilt for choice...Here is another. Now i don't like to compare bands but to give you an idea of their sound think of fm,chinatown, terraplane, praying mantis....you get my drift...great melodic rock and british at that... in steve carney they had a great singer who now plays in a YES cover band so that will tell you how good a voice he has ....If you like this period for music grab this and i think you will be pleasantly suprised.....
This was supposed the be the last reading festival and they really pulled out all the stops for sat & sun with some great bands (forget fri ...zzzzzz) and was definitely one of my favourite festival experiences ever...but jesus was i hungover or what....here's the advert for it...enjoy ed

More savage from the standard.... as i have said on my other savage post they produced one of my favourite albums of this era "loose & lethal" with most of the songs included in this set...if cry wolf does not move you... well sorry but get your hearing checked out...great stuff ....the only downside once again to this show was the apathy of london crowds... ok there were not a lot of people here but there can be nothing worse for a band than when they finish a song and are met with nothing but polite applause..... but they still rocked on and it did get better towards the end of the gig....enjoy ed

Ok just to clear a few things up regarding this recording...I have seen this available in various formats over the years so i assume along with myself the gig was recorded by someone else which as i have said before on this blog is very likely as i would hang around with other bootleggers (sounds so secretive ha) and we would often trade etc.... from memory i cannot recall trading this show but i may of...this is definitely my recording as i can here myself at one point talking to my then girlfriend during a break in songs.....Now i am not trying to gain any brownie points as i don't really give a shit it's just that i recently received a pm from someone saying that i used one of his recordings which was untrue as i do know what i recorded from the notes i left on the cassette inlay and i always stipulate whether it's an ed master (my original recording) or a trade.
Anyway the gig itself...well i don't know as i wasn't there (JOKING) it was really good but everyone knew that the rest of maiden were turning up so the whole of wardour street was taken up with maiden fans all afternoon screaming for bruce etc which i think was a bit unfair on adrian smith who was the star of the show for me..i have always liked his urchin and silver and gold material and away from the confines of maiden you really do appreciate what a good guitarist and song writer he is...a great night was had by all....enjoy ed

During the early 80's there truly was some great music around for hard rock fans like myself and for me mantis released one of the great albums of that era (time tells no lies),i recently dusted my copy of it off and gave it a blast and wow it's good... with so many classic songs on it...simply brilliant!.
here is a show i caught them at back in '81 at one of my favourite venues...for the life of me i cannot remember if they headlined or were supporting someone...help! this was before they took on a vocalist yet managed to perfect their harmonies as a four piece...the only downside for me was the reaction from the crowd...very poor and unusual for geordieland...also the inclusion of all day and all of the night...feckin awful song.... for which i remember drunkenly telling tino troy on the  two occasions i met him at later gigs...oh well we all do stupid things in our youth..ha... enjoy ed

Amazing show!!! 3 hours of pure heaven... if you were to ask me back then to come to a show where there was a 20 minute guitar solo and even worse, a 10 minute drum solo i would of told you to feck off but for some strange reason frank marino did it for me big time... as i have said previously on this blog my intro to the man was the album "what's next" which still to this day gets a regular blast...i  just love it.. so i had to go along and sit through 3 hours of some of the best jamming sessions you will ever hear...totally blown away by the man.... during some of his many solo's there maybe extracts from his earlier albums with mahogany rush but to be honest i don't have them so i am not sure..
Now i have seen this show available on other sites BUT not the full show... This is the full show recorded by myself and it's rather good.. so if you have a spare 3 hours available sit back and open a can(or 3) or roll a fat one if that is your preference and prepare yourself for guitar genius...enjoy ed

Another early bon jovi from my tape collection.... here they are destroying (whoops i mean supporting) kiss on their european tour of '84... i went to see a few of the british dates and they were so good... it was a gamble for kiss to have them on tour with  but it made for a great nights entertainment.and as  we all know 2 years later jovi went on the become the biggest band in the world.a nice recording but unfortunately it cuts off towards the end of runaway but still worth having as i have not seen this show around..... enjoy ed

15.electric

WOW... What a band!between '81 & '84 diamond head were on a different level...when a band can produce such energy (shoot out the lights) majestic quality (heaven to hell) brilliant pop rock (call me)and still have a sense of humour (sucking my love) you have to put your hands up and admire them.while transferring this recording i just closed my eyes and transported myself back to the early 80's and think these must of been some of the best songs to come out of that era....pure brilliance.

The town & venue itself..well thats a different story...it's hull so it must of been raining and as for the venue... it was literally a ballroom...not the best venue for a rock gig..that aside for those of us there we witnessed something very special.this was early days for me regards to recording but i think it came out quite good (slight cock up on the tape flip at the end of devil) and i only had a c90 on me so it cuts off at the end of electric...still worth a listen mefinks....... enjoy ed
