These recordings...

All the recordings I post here will be what I think are VG+(B/B+) quality and unless stated otherwise will be audience recordings. They will not be to everyone's taste but the idea is to give fellow music fans a chance to hear rare recordings from a certain era(the 80's).Many of these I have had stored away for 30+ years and will be available for the first time...

If it's soundboard A+ quality you are after these will not be for you...BUT I would never post anything that was unlistenable.. So pop the headphones on and grab your air guitar of choice... lets ROCK

Now this will test you...who can remember this band???? they only ever released one album (rock n roll women) which was quite good and they could definitely cut it live.... they were sisters one blonde and one brunette and both pleasing to the eye...as an 18yo watching them onstage together I must confess my imagination did take over a couple of times.... seriously though they had some great songs.....not sure if they had the same soundman for both gigs but the sound at the start  on both shows was terrible but it did improve by the 2nd song......enjoy ed

Another show from my boys, how pissed off was I on this night? let me explain... I was in Newcastle at the crue/ trick gig over at the city hall which was great but it hurt to think one of my favourite bands were playing down the road at the mayfair and then to make it even worse I found out later from my mate who taped the show that terraplane didn't go on stage until 12am!!!! so I could of gone...but these were the days before mobile phones and by  that time I was on my way to Edinburgh to catch the next crue/trick date...oh well at least I got the recording (thanks d.)..sshhh I still think they are better than thunder............ enjoy ed

Every once in a while there is a band that comes along that just blows you away, for me it was this lot back in '82,i loved everything about them.I even became an official SMF member (how sad was that) but I didn't care back then.. I was just swept along with TS fever and on their later tours I would follow them up and down the country and even across to Europe where on occasion they would come to chat to us in our vw camper van....real rock n roll ha ha.
I was fortunate enough to catch all their marquee gigs in '82 & '83 and here are 3 of them without doubt some of the best gigs I ever went to at that little sweat hole just thinking about them after all these years  makes me want to pull out ruff cuts and give it a blast.....which I am going to do now. enjoy ed

As I have just posted the official bootleg album I thought I would follow it up with another great gig they did at the marquee...the memories I have of this show were...outside there was about 30 foot of snow (ok slight exaggeration but it was snowing and feckin' cold) but in true rock n roll attitude I still made my way up to London for the gig but afterwards all trains had been cancelled so my night was spent at Euston station amongst the homeless and alcoholics until the first train available in the morning..... happy days...enjoy ed

Another great band... I love their first 2 albums with gary barden although not the best singer in the world I thought he suited the songs perfect. This tour was to promote their 3rd album assault attack for which graham bonnet sang on and like everyone else thought he would continue with the band on tour BUT and this is where it gets amusing...during a warm up gig for their reading show a rather inebriated bonnet went behind the amps and brought out a rhythm guitarist who had been hidden away just to piss off schenker (that is a show I would love to hear).so as you can imagine that was the end of bonnet and they got barden back for the tour.I went to the hammy gigs on this tour but I think they have been out so I picked a couple of shows I got in a trade... enjoy ed

What can I say? He is without doubt one of the best guitarist's ever from this side of the atlantic, and when you got to see him close up at a venue like the marquee you are just left with an open mouth in awe...simply brilliant... ok.. I have seen this recording elsewhere so two things could of happened..i traded with someone back in the day and they have beaten me to the transferring of the show which of course I have not got a problem in world about it and why would i?...all good. OR someone else recorded the show which often happened back then,in fact I knew of at least 3 guys who like myself recorded most of the London gigs,in fact there was one occasion at the marquee where we all stood next to each other recording which now I think about it must of looked a bit suspicious as everyone else around us was headbanging away and we were all stood straight..ha. don't forget that back then there was a certain  stigma regards bootlegging and if you were caught you didn't get asked to leave quietly  you were given a bit of a slap as happened to a very good friend of mine during a john waite gig at the marquee from a couple of roadies...oh well it's only rock n roll.... enjoy ed.

How can anyone not like quiet riot? straight forward hard rock by numbers.Great choice by priest to have them opening up as they got the crowd on their feet but would never be good enough to outshine the headliners (unlike van halen who did that to Sabbath a few years earlier)... a couple of facts about quiet riot you might not know... randy rhoads was in the group for the first couple of albums and they were the first "heavy metal" band to have a number 1 album in America... well I wouldn't call it "heavy metal" myself but whatever.... good band   enjoy ed

More female fronted rock from the 80's,we were quite lucky at the marquee because a lot of bands would come over for a showcase gig before they went off to support whoever on tour. This was the case with hellion...their debut uk gig and rather good it was aswell...ann boleyn has a great voice and just in case you are unfamiliar with the band I have included a four track demo which I found in my box of tapes ....... enjoy ed

ok... unlike are cousins across the pond we here in the uk cannot do full glam rock.. it's embarrassing and it just does not work.BUT what we do have is a sense of humour and when we do try it we do it with our tongues placed firmly in our cheeks...here is the perfect example the MIGHTY WRATHCHILD.They arrived on the scene in the early 80's demanding world domination... well they didn't quite achieve that but they gave us some great gigs and some really good tunes. Here is the first of my double header live at the clarendon arms, hammersmith a tiny little club not far away from the odeon.... but it gets better.....

now let me explain about the verulem arms, this was my local back then 100 yards from home and I would pop down most nights, then in '82 they decided to turn one of the bars into a venue for gigs.which was great but the sound was never any good never mind who was playing..also the bar was all round so I would be watching rocky from wrathchild telling us what he was going to do to a certain female and how he was going to do it and at the same time I would look across the bar and there would be paddy supping his pint while reading the racing post...beyond surreal!!!
That aside I thought wrathchild rocked so get some lipstick on and enjoy...ed

you just gotta love ozzy,I had been up to Newcastle a couple of weeks earlier to see this tour and by the time they got down to us in London they really had nailed it.this was the first time we had seen jake e lee and he really was a bit special..ozzy throughout his career has always found great guitarists and jake was no exception...... sometimes when I listen back to my recordings there will be a show where the recording came out near perfect (for an audience recording) and this is one of them,i must of been in the perfect spot because this is rather good and considering I was only using a standard Walkman with external mic I am quite pleased with it..... enjoy ed

What a band.... both the blackout & love at first sting tours were out of this world...for any youngsters out there (sorry! slightly patronizing) I cannot begin to tell you how good they were live back then (still are!)...the energy they put into every show was amazing...I still get goose bumps when I listen to coast to coast/always somewhere done live...simply brilliant.
I went to the hammersmith gigs on this tour but they are out there already so I have posted the 2 Newcastle gigs they did that a friend of mine recorded...both similar quality wise but if you wanted just 1 then I would say the 28th is the better of them...enjoy ed

I used to love going to see girlshool..aside from the letch factor they played some great catchy songs,my problem tonight was the crowd..this was the last night of the tour and it was near xmas but no matter how hard they tried they could not get the audience going... it always seemed to be the same when I went to gigs in Dunstable... sure you had the hardcore up the front but when I looked around the lack of interest was hard to believe... never mind! I still enjoyed it... the support band jaguar came on for the encore... I wish I had taped their set aswell.... enjoy ed

ok... if anyone was to ask me now to go and see a band where the highlight of the show would be a grown man blowing up a hot water bottle on stage... well the polite answer would be no.. but back then I thought thor were quite good... something different with some good hard tunes and a great guitarist... I think they are still going but surely he can't still be doing the bottle trick!!! enjoy ed

Now this was a real pleasant surprise let me explain... I had the day off from work and I as I would do back in those days I would jump on the train up to hammersmith odeon and purchase tickets for any upcoming shows then get the tube to oxford street and make my way to SHADES record shop where I would spend the afternoon listening and purchasing the latest imports, while there the lads told me RAVEN  had been asked to play the marquee that night at short notice... so why not! I had my Walkman on me and although I was not their biggest fan I did like a few of their songs... so it was in the SHIP for a few pre show pints then to the gig and WOW... brilliant!they had so much energy even though the turnout was poor (short notice gig) it did not affect their performance... been a fan since...enjoy ed

During a period of three years '82-'85 I must of seen budgie over 40 times and although the set list did not change much they always put on a great show..even if they played in front of a couple of hundred fans (like tonight) or a few thousand (reading fest)... the songs would become so familiar to me I would hum them in my sleep... enjoy ed
